Whereas a fat quarter is one-fourth of a yard (36 x 44 inches) of fabric, a fat eighth is an eighth of a whole yard, or half of a fat quarter. Fat eighths can be cut in both directions, lengthwise or crosswise, depending on your preference or your desired quilt patterns. Fat eighths are typically sold in bundles called eighth packs.
